Privacy policy
What we collect, and what we don’t.
NineBrains is a story app, not an ad business. We collect the least we need to run it, and we never track you for advertising.
Draft for reviewThis policy is a draft written from the product plan. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and is not yet in force. It will be checked against the shipped app before the App Store and Google Play submissions.
The short version
- No ad tracking
- We don’t use advertising identifiers, we don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and we don’t sell or share personal data for advertising. The app never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt because it never needs to.
- Anonymous analytics
- The app records product events, such as a story started, a story finished or Today complete, tied to a random ID made on your device. Not your name, not your email. We use them to see which stories work and to fix what breaks.
- Purchases
- On iPhone, Apple takes the payment through the App Store; on Android, Google takes it through Google Play. We never see your card. RevenueCat, our subscription service on both, checks the store receipt and tells the app whether you have Pro.
- An account is optional
- You can use NineBrains without one. If you create one, we keep your email so your saves, streak and stickers follow you to a new phone.
- Delete any time
- In the app: You, then Settings, then Delete account. It is immediate. Or email us.
What we collect
| Data | Why | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Product events and a random install ID | To count story starts and finishes, Today complete, recall answers and screens used, so we can improve stories and the app. Not linked to your identity. | retention to confirm, then deleted |
| Crash and error reports | To find and fix crashes. They include the device model, OS version and what the app was doing, never story answers or your email. | retention to confirm |
| Purchase status (iOS and Android) | To unlock Pro. The App Store or Google Play sends a receipt; RevenueCat checks it against a random app user ID, not your name or email, and tells the app whether Pro is active. RevenueCat receives the purchase details the store sends (product, price, currency, dates and country), never your card. | As long as you have Pro, and as the stores and tax law require |
| Email address (optional account) | To sign you in and sync your saves, streak and stickers across devices. We don’t send marketing to this address unless you ask us to. | Until you delete your account |
| Your app settings and progress | Topics you picked, your reminder time, saved stories and stickers. Kept on your phone, and in your account if you made one. | Until you delete the app or your account |
We don’t collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone or health data. Notifications are optional and only carry the daily nudge you set.
